Application Information for SDU Prospective International Students Undergraduate Programs for 2017(Degree Programs)

1.  Eligibility

1)        Applicants must be Non-Chinese citizens in good health, at the age of 18 or above, and possess a valid passport.[1]

2)      Educational Background

Applicants for undergraduate programs must have senior high school certificate with good academic performance

 (Note: Applicants who have not yet graduated can obtain a pre-graduation letter from their current educational institution stating their expected date of graduation. If accepted, the applicant is required to provide the original graduation certificate upon registration. Otherwise, the acceptance qualification will be cancelled.)

2.  Application Period

1stJanuary, 2017 - 15thJune, 2017

Note: Chinese Government Scholarship students shall apply on the CSC Online Registration System: http://www.campuschina.org/ and at the same time register on the Online Application System for International Students: http://www.apply.sdu.edu.cn, otherwise their application will not be considered.

3.  Application Method

All the international students must make online application on the Online Application System for International Students: http://www.apply.sdu.edu.cn. Paper-based applications will not be considered. Chinese Government Scholarship students shall mail the CSC application documents to SDU International Student Admissions Office before 31st, March. (Address:C301 Mingde Building, Central Campus of Shandong University, No.27 South Shanda Road, Jinan, China)

4.  Academic Programs & Required Documents

Besides Chinese-taught programs open to international students, SDU has also developed some English-taught undergraduate programs for international applicants. Each applicant can only choose one program and successful applicants can’t change their program without valid reasons. Students can apply to graduate ahead of schedule or delay graduation according to their academic performance at university.

Language   Requirement:

Chinese-taught   Programs:

a)        New HSK Level 4, over   180 points (Note: HSK refers to Chinese Proficiency Test. You can find   information on: www.chinesetest.cn )

b)        Applicants who have   obtained their highest degree with Chinese as the medium of instruction are   exempted from providing HSK certificate, but proof indicating the language   medium is required.

English-taught   Programs:

a)          Applicants with   English as native language are exempted from English language certificate.

b)          Applicants from   non-English speaking countries must provide IELTS (6.0 or above), new TOEFL   (80 points or above) or other comparable certification of English   proficiency.

c)          Applicants who have   obtained their highest degree with English as the medium of instruction are   exempted from providing language proficiency certification, but proof   indicating the language medium is required.

Remarks

1.   Applicants must submit the scanned copy of the documents online; Documents in   languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with certified   translations in Chinese or English. All applicants must guarantee that all   the documents are complete, true and correct.

2.   Application will not be processed unless they are complete and additional   documents may be required if necessary.

5.      Registration Period

Registration will be in the first half of September 2017 (to be specified in the admission notice). Successful applicants are required to register in SDU during the specified period, and early registration will not be handled.

3)  Accommodation and Fees

Please see “Attachment: On-campus Accommodation Information for International Students” for room types, location, fees, etc. for on-campus accommodation.

There is no need for Chinese Government Scholarship students to apply for accommodation which will be arranged by the university.

Other students need to apply for accommodation online (see the website for further notice) after receiving the admission notice. It is required to pay for the deposit after being approved; otherwise the room shall not be reserved.

4)  Medical Insurance Premium: 800 RMB per year

(Note: According to the regulation of Ministry of Education, all international students must be covered by medical insurance plan throughout their entire planned period of study. Students are required to purchase the Comprehensive Insurance Plan of Foreign Students on the day of registration by submitting copies of their passport. Students who don’t have valid medical insurance will not be allowed to register.)

Students who have Chinese Government Scholarship don’t need to pay the medical insurance in person.

7.      Visa

Students who are admitted must apply for study visa at the Chinese Embassy/Consulate in their home country with the Admission Notice and JW201/202 form. International students who will study in China for less than 6 months should apply for “X2” type of visa. Students who will study in China for over 6 months are required to obtain ‘X1’ type of Visa, which will only be valid for 30 days after your arrival in China. Students must come to the International Student Affairs Office to apply for a Residence Permit within 30 days in order to obtain a legal stay in China.

[1] Note:  According to the No.83 Document from the Ministry of Education of China, International students who come to China for study must have held a valid foreign passport for at least four years (before 30th April of the enrollment year), and must have actually resided in a foreign country for at least two years in the past four years. (Nine months of residence in a foreign country may count as a full year. The dates of the entry and exit stamps in the passport will be followed in the determination of actual foreign residence.) Applicants mentioned above should submit additional documents as follows: (1) Certificate of naturalization; (2) Proof of cancellation of the original residence; (3) A photocopy of exit and entry signature pages of the passport in the recent four years (original copy for future examination); (4) Proof of study or work experience abroad in the recent two years.
