Established by the Center for Language Education and Cooperation of the Ministry of Education, China Studies Program provides prestigious Ph.D. fellowships in related humanity and social sciences, sponsors in-depth research opportunities in China, collaborates on Chair or professorship with overseas universities， co-hosts or sponsors international symposiums or seminars in related academic fields, facilitates or sponsors relevant translation and publication of works, and promotes exchanges and cooperation among scholars in relevant fields. The program of Ph.D. Fellowship consists of Ph.D. in China Fellowship and Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship.
Joint Research Ph.D. Fellowship funds outstanding foreign doctoral students (candidates) registered with foreign universities coming to China for study, research and writing of their doctoral dissertations, which typically lasts for one semester to two academic years. Applicants are required to reach HSK Level 3 or above in their language proficiency. Ph.D. in China Fellowship supports outstanding foreign master's degree holders in pursuing doctoral degrees at Chinese universities, which typically lasts for four years as required by Shandong University. Applicants are required to reach HSK Level 5 or above in their language proficiency. Research Grant is also provided by China Studies Program to support overseas scholars coming to do research in Chinese universities as a visiting scholar.
