This International Student Undergraduate Preparatory Program, based on high quality educational resources of Shandong University, provides a six-month to one-year preparatory training for students interested in embarking on undergraduate studies at SDU.
After the preparatory training, international students with excellent scores and good performance may obtain priority admission to SDU undergraduate programs.
Applicants that have a graduation certificate of a senior high school with good academic performance and wish to embark on undergraduate studies at Shandong University.
After completing the preparatory courses, if the student chooses to discontinue his/her studies at SDU, he/she can be recommended by Shandong University to continue studying at other Chinese universities.
Develop both language skills and knowledge about the discipline’s subjects; improve students’ Chinese proficiency and their mastering of basic and professional subjects.
Reach HSK level 4 (210 points) after the preparatory 1 year course. Or Reach HSK level 3 (270 points) after the preparatory 0.5 year course.
Reach an acceptable level in basic subjects (e.g. mathematics, physics, chemistry, etc.).
Shandong University is a key comprehensive university directly under the Ministry of Education. It is a class A university in the national “Double First-Class University Plan” of the Chinese government.
Students with satisfactory grades will be admitted to undergraduate programs of Shandong University.
Students who have qualified for undergraduate studies will be awarded the Shandong University Freshmen Scholarship, where at least 50% of the Preparatory Program fees will be refunded (For now, this policy will only apply to students who have enrolled in 2019-2020 academic year).

Copy of valid passport;
High school diploma or preliminary diploma certificate (certified or notarized)
Academic transcripts of all subjects taken during high school;
Personal statement (written in Chinese or English) incorporating the points below:

Completed Foreigner Physical Examination Form (valid for 6 months);

Note: All application materials must be submitted in the form of a scanned copy. Documents other than Chinese or English must be accompanied by an official notarized Chinese or English translation. The applicant must guarantee that all application materials are authentic and accurate. If application materials are incomplete, the school has the right to deny the application; if necessary, the school will ask the applicant to complement needed materials.
Admissions Results
After receiving application materials, Shandong University will select the best candidates on the basis of competitive selection. A pre-admission notice will be sent to the successful applicant’s via e-mail usually within one month. After the pre-admission notice is sent, SDU will also send a paper version of the “Shandong University Admission Notice” and the “Chinese Visa Application Form for Foreigners”. If your application has been declined, you will be informed via e-mail.
The student should take the acceptance letter and a JW202 Form to the Chinese Embassy of his/her country in order to apply for a Chinese visa.
The student will be officially enrolled after the conclusion of the abovementioned steps.

According to regulations of the PRC Ministry of Education, international students must be covered by medical insurance in Mainland China. Students can purchase medical insurance from Office 2125 of the international students’ apartment, Central Campus, on registration day (800 RMB/year, 400 RMB/semester). If medical insurance is not purchased as required, students will see their enrollment cancelled.
Admitted students are required to apply for a study visa at the Chinese Embassy with Admission Notice and JW201/202 Form. An X1 visa is required for a study period of more than 6 months and the X1 visa must be converted into a study residence permit within 30 days of arrival in China.
