You should apply for residence permit within 30 days after arriving in China. Application method: use your passport number and password to log in the Visa Application System ( website: http://www.apply.sdu.edu.cn/en/student/login), fill in your personal information, upload the required documents and then submit. If you hold X2 visa, it doesn't need to be changed to residence permit.
